taking stock of things

February 26, 2010

So I have now been assigned my specific class, I will be teaching Class 2A, and you can see the profile for my kids on the KMT website. I will also put up information shortly on how you can sponsor the specific children in my class or at my school, or you can refer to the “How You Can Help” page of this blog.

Accomplishments:

  • Bought my first shalwar kameez
  • have amazed locals with my knowledge of Amitabh Bachan and Bollywood,
  • figured out a whole host of words with are the same in Nepali & Urdu,
  • opened a Pakistani bank account,
  • delved into The Count of Monte Cristo,
  • written complete lesson plans for Social Studies!

Now: heading to my managing trustee’s Pashtun village for a wedding and other family activities. Tremendously excited, will hopefully have plenty of pictures to upload Monday! Also working on  academic goals for this upcoming term, familiarizing myself with all my kids (trying to have names memorized before term begins), learning Urdu, and  inadvertently learning Pashto from household staff 🙂

And, perhaps most importantly, I am sleeping in-tune with Pakistan time. No more waking up before the first muezzin call.

Amazing progress, after just a week there! I think you are going to be a wonderful teacher, these children are lucky you’re headed their way!
